Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies |
 |
Introduction & Overview |
The weight loss industry boom has seen many products, among them numerous self-help diet programs. The trend has also encouraged many self-proclaimed nutrition and diet experts to churn out numerous books. Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies is such a book on the “Dummies” series. It is written by Marina S. Kurian, Barbara Thompson and Brian K. Davidson.
In order to analyze Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, we will need to look at not only what the book has to offer, but also at the credibility of the authors. It is interesting to note that the book is not the first, nor probably the last, to be written by a trio that may be trying to cash in on their “professional expertise.” Nevertheless, we will take a faithful and objective look at the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and conclude whether the book alone may provide anything substantial to individuals serious about losing their weight.

 | Concept and Authors |
The basic concept of the book is, like all books in the Dummies series, to provide a comprehensive review and the nuts and bolts of weight loss surgery. As such, we believe a potential user of the book may desire to know more about the authors. Dr. Marina Kurian graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. degree from Union College, and received her M.D. from Albany Medical College. Dr. Kurian completed her General Surgery training at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. She is active in the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Barbara Thompson is a gastric bypass patient, author, professional speakerand national spokesperson for obesity sensitivity. She is also the author of Weight Loss Surgery: Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You. Brian K. Davidson is the cofounder and publisher of WLS Lifestyles magazine. He is said to have authored several articles for the weight loss surgery community.

 | Book’s Structure |

 | Consumer Feedback |
Our review of the book found many positive reviews and cheers. The efforts on the part of the authors seem to be commended the most, since this book appears to be one of the few of its kind on the market. We found that many may have used it as an indispensable reference guide and a reliable and effective “first consultation” guide. However, readers seeking alternative assistance for obesity may not be as pleased.

 | Conclusion |
Although the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies approach may be quite laudable and unique, we believe that the majority of people looking to lose weight may be weary of surgery. We would have been more enthusiastic had the authors provided us with an overview about alternative methods of weight loss as well. We believe that surgery may not be appealing to most, and we think it should be taken as a last resort.
In the end, we believe an individual serious about weight loss may do much better by exploring supplements in a capsule form. To those trying to avoid potential complications of a weight loss surgery, a supplement with proven fat burning ingredients, such as Bitter Orange, may be quite appealing. We think that Bitter Orange and such organic ingredients are safer and effective if they come in a patented form. It is especially beneficial when a free product trial is offered.
