Mastering Food Program |
 |
Introduction & Overview |
Currently, it is estimated that over 400 million people worldwide can be classified as being clinically obese, and millions more are overweight. This trend is being viewed by many health experts as a major global health threat, which some believe is comparable with other pandemics. Many people are waking up and looking at their own health and weight gain; and because of this, they are seeking ways to lose weight.
The Mastering Food Program is a 12-week psychotherapy-based weight loss plan that is accessed via the Internet. This plan was developed by Roger Gould, M.D., who modeled it after his book, Shrink Yourself.
|
 | Pros |
• Costs less than traditional psychotherapy
• Offering a 15-minute free trail, but we doubt this is long enough to really get a good idea of the effectiveness of this plan
|
 | Cons |
• Not all overeaters are emotional eaters
• No research supplied as of review to prove its effectiveness
|
 | Concept |
The key concept behind Gould’s Mastering Food Program lies in his experiences as a psychiatrist “who has been treating overweight people for over 30 years”. He believes that there is no way that diet and exercise alone may “make” individuals lose weight and maintain that weight loss over time. He believes the only true solution is that individuals must see how truly unhappy they are and what they are unhappy about so they may break the overeating cycle. This is a new take on a concept that has been used in many plans – trying to stop emotional eating. Many of those who are overweight or obese are emotional eaters; however, this is not the case for everyone, so this plan may be disappointing for those who do not have this issue.

 | Design |
This website fully outlines this plan’s design; informing individuals about the ins and outs of the 12-week process. Some plans that are similar to this one will provide dieters with generic materials; however, this plan is purported to give users a “genuine two-way online dialog”, so that they may identify their emotional eating patterns, and discover ways to circumvent them, leading to weight loss. This is not a traditional therapeutic setting, so some people may find it to be cold and impersonal, which may impact the program’s results.
|
 | Cost |
Mastering Food Program offers a free 15-minute trial on this website, so that individuals may get an idea of how the plan works. However, we are not convinced that a 15-minute mini session may assist individuals in deciding if this plan is right for them. This plan will cost those who are interested about $120, which is usually the cost of one psychotherapy session in many cities, so this plan may seem more cost effective to some people. However, whether this kind of cyber session will work or not has not been adequately proven via research as of yet. So, for many people, this plan may seem like a crap shoot that may work, but it may not.
|
 | Conclusion |
The Mastering Food Program may be valuable to those people who know that their overeating is grounded in emotional eating, and who would rather chat with a therapist via the Internet than in person. However, we find this kind of therapeutic model has not been proven to be effective, so for some, it may seem too risky. Also, not everyone who overeats is an emotional overeater, and for these individuals, this plan may end up being a waste of time and money.
Diet plans definitely have a place in this market, but for many, they are not the whole solution, because results of these plans typically vary from person-to-person. For this reason, some people have turned to holistic supplements to manage their hunger and boost thermogenesis. For instance, many people have found relief from hunger and cravings with Hoodia, which has been clinically proven to reduce a person’s daily caloric intake. The most results-oriented formulas will offer a free trial, which is an offer we always suggest looking for and using.
